How To Protect Your Scalp From The Sun During The Summer

t's easy to overlook your scalp when it comes to sun protection, but you will regret it if you get burned. Whether you are going to be out in the hot summer sun for an hour or two, or you plan to spend the entire day at the beach, you are going to want to protect your scalp in order to prevent burning and peeling from occurring. It's particularly important to protect your scalp if you have invested in scalp micropigmentation. Here is everything you need to know about scalp sunburns and how to protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays:

How to Protect Yourself and Prevent Scalp Sunburns

Scalp sunburns are particularly uncomfortable, and they often result in scalp sunburn peeling. Not only is the scalp peeling from sunburn uncomfortable, but it also can be unsightly. In order to protect your scalp and prevent a peeling scalp from sunburn, you can take these preventative measures:

  • Apply SPF sunscreen to your scalp when you are going to be spending an extended period of time outdoors in the summer. Even spending just an hour or two in the sun can result in a sunburn on your scalp, largely because your scalp is exposed to the direct sunlight that hits the top of your head. SPF sunscreen can help prevent your scalp from being burned and can prevent scalp sunburn peeling.
  • Wear a hat on your head if you are going to be outside for more than three or four hours in the sunlight. Even SPF sunscreen will not give you all-day protection from the sun, especially in a vulnerable spot like your scalp. When you wear a hat regularly, you won't have to worry about scalp peeling after sunburn.
  • Minimize the amount of time that you spend outside in the direct sunlight. You would be surprised to find how effective it is to take breaks every hour or two to sit in the shade or to rest in a covered area. This can minimize prolonged exposure to the direct sunlight and can prevent you from getting burned.

Symptoms of Scalp Sunburns

The symptoms of scalp sunburns will vary based on the severity of the burn itself. The most common symptoms of scalp sunburns include:

  • Redness and pain at the site of the burn. The scalp is located in a position in which the direct sunlight often hits, which makes it vulnerable to burns. The first symptom that most people notice is redness on the scalp and a burning sensation.
  • Itching in the days following the initial burn. The burn will dry the skin on the scalp out, which leads to scalp sunburn peeling and sunburned scalp flakes. Most people find that their scalp itches as the skin dries out and the scalp peeling from sunburn begins.

Fortunately, if you do begin to notice that you have sunburned scalp peeling or sunburned scalp flakes, there are treatment options that can provide you with relief from the itching and will stop the peeling scalp from sunburn.

Treatment Options for Scalp Sunburns

Sunburned scalp peeling is frustrating and uncomfortable, but there are treatment options available if you are suffering from scalp peeling after sunburn. Some of the most common treatment options for scalp sunburns include:

  • Apply moisturizing lotion to the area. The reason that you have sunburned scalp peeling is that the skin is dry and damaged on the scalp and a new layer of skin is being regenerated. A light layer of moisturizing lotion can help soothe and repair the skin.
  • Drink water and rehydrate yourself. By adding fluid to your body, your skin will receive the nutrients it needs to naturally repair itself.

Caring for Your Scalp When You Have Had Scalp Micropigmentation

If you have had a scalp micropigmentation performed in order to treat permanent hair loss, you will want to be particularly mindful of protecting your scalp from the sun. A scalp sunburn can begin to damage the layers of skin in which the pigment has been applied, and it can have a detrimental impact on your scalp micropigmentation results.

This variety of options offers a beacon of hope and possibility for men experiencing hair loss, reminding them that style is not limited by hairline. So, let’s take a closer look at some bold hairlines that will make you look great no matter what your hairline is.
